Workshop 1 unpacking the themes and kindness

kindness  a verbal/physical action that is nice caring using manners

example When Jack stands up for auggie in the fight the scene
with  julien

shows kindness sticking up for a friend
not letting others talk boldly about friends jack has previously not been kin talked about auggie behind his back

Important because helps people make friends builds a person self confident s makes people accepted/included if there was no kindness auggie would  have made any friends grown his self confidence have to take his helmet of feel included at beacher prep

eaxample 2 when Amos and the others help jack and auggie fight the 7th graders

THE IMPORTANCE OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS  trust trust of others support system people you feel safe with help build resilience

example 1 when the Pullmans dog daisy dies shows theme brings together to grieve show support for one another  auggie & via put aside their argument to look after each other

example 2 the fight at the nature reserve where Amos and the other boys come together to rescue jack from the 7th graders

Support because they stand up for each other auggie & jack trust the boys come together come to help them they do not abandon each other. The boys support each other each other to move forward they are all friends now

IMPORTANT TO THE STORY-

good relationships with friends help auggie build trust & feel safe he takes the helmet off. His face

His friendship with summer teaches him resilience trust & forgiveness

His family are always there to support him when things go wrong at school

CHOOSE BETWEEN RIGHT AND POPULAR - being right means showing intergrity doing the right thing even when nobody is looking

being popular means agreeing with acting in a way others want you to even when you do not agree
example 1 when jack choose to stay with auggie as his science partner
instead of going with julien and Amos

Shows theme jack choose right over popular julien wanted to leave auggie out & jack choose not to .

example 2 when summer decides to sit with auggie instead of the popular girls who ere talking behind auggies back

show theme summer chose right not to sit and talk nasty with her friends best to go and sit with auggie who has alone

auggie does not trust her at first because of jack  summer stays anyway & helps auggie link to importance of friendship

Important to the story the concern is relatable everyone has to experience this so it helps to viewer to engage with the story

makes kindness/ relationships more obvious when we have  seen the person struggle
